Watch This Harvard Professor Explain Why Money Shouldn’t Buy Everything (VIDEO)

In the following presentation, Michael Sandel, a political philosopher and professor at Harvard, explains something that’s been in the back of all of our heads — money isn’t everything.

Except, in today’s world (not just the United States), money really is everything. We use it to wage war through the use of private companies, and even to save us the inconvenience of standing in line. Yet, what if there are things that really shouldn’t be purchased? After all, in a democracy, equality is key — not perfect economic equality, but a general equality of experience. Or, as Sandel puts it, a “commonality of experience.” Equal opportunity should be the defining social and economic trait of a democratic society.
