MSNBC Host Nails House Republican To The Wall Over Government Shutdown (VIDEO)

When MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts interviews a Republican, he doesn’t hold back. Such was the case on Tuesday when he interviewed Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn about the government shutdown that her party wanted and initiated two weeks ago.

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts tore apart House Republican Marsha Blackburn during interview

During an uncomfortable interview in which she and her fellow Republicans were taken to the woodshed for putting the country at risk for political gain, GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn was reduced to lying about the shutdown and accusing Roberts of being “inappropriate.” Roberts asked Blackburn point blank if she hates the Affordable Care Act more than she loves the country. After that question, Blackburn couldn’t take the heat and Roberts proceeded to pile the pressure on.

ROBERTS: “Do you hate Obamacare more than you love your country?”

BLACKBURN: “I think that comments like that, that you are making, are just incredibly inappropriate.”

ROBERTS: “You don’t think it’s incredibly inappropriate to shut down our government and take all the hostages of Americans that you’ve taken? No, no, no. It’s not inappropriate because you’ve taken the government hostage through a shutdown. And all the American people, you’re now walking them to a cliff, the economy, and you’re going to push them over, one by one, based on the fact that you don’t like the ACA. That’s all it is.”

BLACKBURN: “Listen to yourself! We didn’t want a government shutdown. Just listen to the way you’re sounding. My goodness! We didn’t want a government shutdown. We don’t want a government default. We are continuing to work through this.”

ROBERTS: “Really? Because on Aug. 6 at the Economic Club of Nashville … you said, “Everything we can do, whether it’s defunding, delaying, repealing, replacing, all of our energy needs to be in every one of these efforts. I applaud Ted Cruz for getting out there and bringing this to the forefront.” Did you not say that?”

BLACKBURN: “Those are comments that I did make to the Economic Club and let me tell you why…”

ROBERTS: “So you have been planning a shutdown since August…”

BLACKBURN: “No. Not at all. Not at all. What you are doing is so inappropriate… We didn’t want a shutdown, we want to solve problems.”

Thomas Roberts has taken Republicans to the woodshed over the government shutdown before

This isn’t the first time that Thomas Roberts has called out Republicans since the government shutdown began. During an epic interview with Reince Priebus earlier this month, Roberts wiped the floor with the RNC Chairman. Priebus not only repeatedly dodged Roberts’ question about why the budget has to be tied to defunding a law that has been rightfully passed by Congress and declared constitutional by the Supreme Court, he also claimed that the American people wanted the shutdown. Several polls have shown without a shadow of a doubt that Americans oppose the shutdown and blame Republicans for it.

Marsha Blackburn lied to Americans about Republicans not wanting government shutdown

For her part, Blackburn not only dodged Roberts’ question, she lied to him repeatedly by claiming that Republicans didn’t want a shutdown. In fact, the opposite is true.

Just before the shutdown, Tea Party Republican Michele Bachmann said of the impending shutdown: “We’re very excited. It’s exactly what we wanted, and we got it.” The day after the shutdown, Bachmann appeared on Fox News and told Sean Hannity:

“This is about the happiest I’ve seen members in a long time because we’ve seen we’re starting to win this dialogue on a national level.”

Not only do Republicans want the shutdown, they are absolutely happy about it. Blackburn lied to the faces of every American during that interview and Thomas Roberts demonstrated journalistic integrity by not letting her get away with it.
